Resurrection Monday

Resurrection, like conversion, is not a moment;
it is a process. Resurrection is not a thing that happens
in an instant or even in a day.
In fact, when it is true and real,
Resurrection takes far longer
than most peoples’ patience can endure.

Resurrection comes with facing the doubts
of those who know me best;
doubts that I could actually become something new.

Resurrection comes with conversations
about the things that put me in the ground to begin with
and the opportunity available to those who buried me
to joyfully share in my rising.

Resurrection comes with the cold realization
that there is so much work ahead
and that almost nothing has changed about the world
except my hope that things can change
and my resolve to make it so.

Resurrection comes with the humble knowledge that,
In the long days ahead, I not only might lose battles
I most surely will.
But Resurrection also comes
with the quiet confidence that

I
will
get
back
up

Resurrection does not come with the settled stillness
of the storm having passed.
Resurrection comes with the buzz
of potentiality, hope and promise;
never again “it is what it is.”

Instead (and forever)

“It might be.”
“It can be.”

“let
us
work
to
make
it
so.”

Which is to say,
I wonder if the gift of Easter Sunday
is most readily available
to those of us who are ready to…
